Six Must Have Experiences in the Maldives

The Maldives is so far one my most memorable experiences ever!  I had the pleasure of spending around 10 days touring Sri Lanka which was an amazing experience and I would highly recommend taking some sort of touring trip if possible whilst in Asia to make the most of the experience since you are taking a longer flight.   Once we had finished our tour,  we took a short flight of apx 30 minutes from Sri Lanka to Male Airport to start our 3 day experience before heading back home. From Male airport, you would need  to take either a Speed boat or a Sea Plane in most cases to reach your private Islands resort.  Each resort is often on its own Atoll (Island).  Ones further away tend to require the Sea plane transfer.  Either option will offer a fantastic sightseeing opportunity.

I had the pleasure of staying on Meerufenfushi.  (Meeru for short). Its a beautiful island which you could walk around the whole shore within apx 90 mins in full circle.  The transfer was out of this world.  An experience I will never forget. Dolphins riding the ripples of the boat and travelling with us quite some distance.  It was such a lovely experience sharing our transfer with these beautiful creatures.   I would highly recommend visiting to anyone looking for a romantic getaway including honeymooners.  We have had many honeymoon couples happy to spend two weeks on the Islands or maybe split the trip between two.

Where are the Maldives?

Tucked in a quiet corner of the Indian Ocean is an idyllic chain of islands known as the Maldives. Known for its abundance of luxurious resorts and stunning natural beauty, the Maldives have earned their spot on most traveler’s bucket lists. However, the question remains, what do you do when you get to the Maldives? Aside from soaking up the sun, here are six must-have experiences while in this tropical paradise.

Private Beach Picnic

If you are looking for peace, quiet, and a unique experience, then a private beach picnic is just the thing for you. Enjoy a delicious gourmet meal prepared by a local chef as you sit back and enjoy your tranquil surroundings.

Snorkeling and Diving

Snorkeling and diving in the Maldives is an absolute must. The crystal clear turquoise waters provide you with excellent visibility. The abundance of reefs around the island will dazzle you with their collection of colorful and exotic fish.

Dhoni Sunset Cruise

Dhoni is a traditional Maldivian boat that makes it the perfect vessel for a sunset cruise. Watch the sun setting over the horizon as you cruise around the islands. If you are lucky, you may even spot some spinner dolphins swimming by.

Try Mas Huni

For the traveler who is looking to experience the local flavor, mas huni is just the dish. This traditional Maldivian breakfast is made of finely chopped tuna, onion, coconut, and chili. While it is a far cry from eggs and bacon, you might be surprised by how much you enjoy the tangy and fresh flavor of mas huni.

Dance along to the Boduberu

The Boduberu is a traditional Maldivian performance consisting of rhythmic drumming, singing, and dancing. The atmosphere around the performance is exhilarating and will give you a feel for the local culture and traditions.

Party it up on the island of Finolhu

Teeming with a fun, yet laid back, retro charm, Finolhu offers guests a refreshing twist on the standard Maldivian holiday. This tiny island is known for attracting famous DJs from around the world to host beach parties throughout the year. If you ever need a change of pace while on vacation in the Maldives, then Finolhu is the place to go.
